After we have boarded the coach we will begin our journey north, continuing through Scotland to Fort William. Sit back, relax and take in Scotland’s beautiful scenery. We will break up our journey with a few stops, one being at the Loch Lomond Visitors Centre.
Our hotel for the holiday will be the Ben Nevis Hotel & Leisure Club, set at the foot of the famous mountain.
After a leisurely breakfast we will depart the hotel to take a scenic drive along Loch Linnhe to Oban, the unofficial capital of the Western Highlands, acclaimed as the ‘Gateway to the Isles’. You can spend the day at leisure exploring the towns attractions, such as McCaig’s Tower, Oban Distillery, and the Caithness Glass Visitor. Mid-afternoon we will make our way back to the hotel, taking in the sights of the Scottish Highlands.
Today we will be starting our day with a ride on the gondola at Nevis Range. Britain’s only mountain gondola will transport us from 300ft up to 21350 on the North face of Aonach Mor, the 8th highest mountain in Britain. During the short journey you will be able to marvel at the stunning views including the Great Glen and Ben Nevis. You will have free time here to visit the restaurant, take in the panoramic views and wander around the Mountain Discovery centre. You will return to base level to board the coach for a 12.30 departure, ready to make our journey along Loch Lochy to Fort Augustus on the banks of Loch Ness. Our cruise departs at 2.00pm, where we will experience the sights, wildlife, and history of the famous loch. Sit back as you cruise past Cherry Island and take in the striking views of Fort Augustus Abbey. For those curious about the deep waters of Loch Ness, the on-board Sonar equipment will beam live images of what lies beneath.
After a slightly earlier breakfast we will leave the hotel today at 9.00am to make our short journey to Fort William Railway Station, where we will embark on what is often described as one of the greatest railway journeys in the world on the famous Jacobite Steam Train. On our 2 hour journey we will encounter some spectacular scenery and travel across the iconic Glenfinnan Viaduct and its 21 arches featured in the Harry Potter films. On arrival in the fishing village of Mallaig, we will catch our wildlife cruise travelling out to Green Island on the Knoydart Peninsula. The waters are often visited by a variety of birds, porpoises, dolphins, seals, whales and basking sharks. You will also be able to sample a Whiskey on board. If you would prefer to spend your time in Mallaig rather than boarding the cruise you are welcome to. Our train departs at 2.15pm to make our way back to Fort William.
Today sadly we must make our way home. We will leave the hotel at 10am, to make our way south, stopping on route.
