Once we have all boarded the coach, we will begin our journey to Cairnryan, stopping on route. We will sail into Belfast, where our hotel is just a short journey away. We will stay at the Loughshore hotel, set in Carrick Fergus, a small sea-side town just north of Belfast.
After a leisurely breakfast, we will board the coach make a short journey to Hillsborough Castle, a working palace functioning as the residence of The Royal Family when they are in Northern Ireland. A guided tour of the house will take us through the elegant State Rooms, including the majestic Throne Room and graceful State Drawing Room. We will learn not only about the paintings, furnishings and curiosities that grace the walls and floors, but also about the historical use and significance of these rooms, which have welcomed a long list of VIPs, including the Dalai Lama, Princess Diana, Hilary Clinton and Eleanor Roosevelt.
Following an early lunch we will make a short journey to The Titanic Experience – winner of the World’s Leading Visitor Attraction in 2016! Take time as you wander through nine galleries, telling the story of RMS Titanic, from her conception in Belfast in the early 1900s, through her construction and launch, to her famous maiden voyage and tragic end. The galleries are innovative and interactive with many features including diving to the depth of the ocean to explore where RMS Titanic now rests.
We will travel north today visiting the Bushmills Distillery where we will be guided around a working distillery with all the associated sights and smells that you would expect from manufacturing award winning Whiskey.
Our afternoon will be spent at the world-famous Giant’s Causeway – a breath taking series of 40,000 interlocking basalt columns which is the result of an ancient volcanic eruption. We will spend a few hours here giving you time to walk along the shore and take in the sights of the only World Heritage site in Northern Ireland.
Our morning will be spent visiting Mount Stewart, a 19th-century house and garden, situated on the shore of Strangford Lough. The home was the seat of the Vane-Tempest-Stewart family, who played a leading role in British and Irish social and political life. Having recently undergone an £8 million-pound restoration, the house and contents reflects their family history. Take time to stroll in the magnificent gardens, recently voted as one of the top ten gardens in the world.
We will then travel back to Belfast giving you a free afternoon to explore. Spend time shopping or visiting one of the many things this vibrant city has to offer including Belfast Cathedral or the impressive Belfast City Hall.
Today we will make our way home, breaking the journey up with a stop on route at Gretna Green.
