After we have boarded the coach, we will begin our journey through Northumberland stopping at Heighley Gate Garden Centre on route, before arriving at Mellerstain House. Set in the Scottish Boarders, Mellerstain House is one of the great houses of Scotland, the current building dates back to 1725 as a result of a fruitful collaboration between the Baillie family and William Adam and his son Robert. We will embark on a guided tour of the house, through its stunning interior decoration, art collections and the history of the estate. We will also have time to roam in the formal gardens designed by Reginald Blomfield. Late afternoon we will make our short journey to our hotel for the trip, Mecure Barony Castle just on the outskirts of Eddleston. Set within 25 acres of grounds, as well as excellent leisure facilities, the hotel features the Great Polish Map of Scotland, the world’s largest terrain relief model. We will have our evening meal tonight at 7.30pm.
After a leisurely breakfast we will depart the hotel for Edinburgh, arriving early afternoon. Enjoy the day in Edinburgh at your leisure, shop until you drop on the famous Princess Street, or why not soak in some Scottish culture by visiting one of the many museum’s Edinburgh has to offer. Relax with a spot of tea before making your way to the Castle for The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. Set in the impressive back drop of the Castle, the show is one of Edinburgh’s most iconic events, and celebrates the skills and talents of military bands and display teams from the British Armed Forces, Commonwealth and forces from around the world. After you have been thrilled by the show we will return back to our hotel.
After a little lie in following our late night, we will leave the hotel around mid-day to make our way south stopping in the Roman town of Corbridge on route.
